THE COMPLETE STORIES Volumes One, Two, Three and Four - Morley Callaghan
Edited by Barry Callaghan • Introductions by Alistair MacLeod, André Alexis, Anne Michaels and Margaret Atwood (Volumes 1 - 4 respectively)

The complete short fiction of Morley Callaghan appears as he comes into full recognition as one of the singular storytellers of our time. In four volumes, several stories are collected for the first time, and two of the longer stories – "An Autumn Penitent" and "In His Own Country" – have been out of print for decades. Hemingway said his early stories were the equal of Joyce and Tolstoy; of his middle years, The New York Times said: "If there is a better story writer in the world we don’t know where he is," and Edmund Wilson compared his later work to Turgenev and Chekhov.
Born in 1903, Morley Callaghan graduated from the University of Toronto and Osgood Hall. He was called to the bar in 1928 but never practised law. Although he travelled widely, and lived in Paris for some time during the golden years of Hemingway and Fitzgerald, Callaghan spent most of his life in Toronto producing fifteen novels, a memoir and streams of short stories. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature and in Canada received a host of honours, including the Governor General’s Award for Fiction. He died in 1990.

WELLS OF LIGHT/Picas Series No. 45
Selected Poems - Fernand Ouellette
Translated by Barry Callaghan and Ray Ellenwood

Born in Montreal, Fernand Ouellette has been a cultural force in Québec for decades, a commentator, novelist and poet, honing in on silence, a light thundering in his ear, saturating the shadows of life with compassion as the dead rear up to leave us.
This bilingual edition includes poems published since 1955, though most are from the collection Ici aillleurs, la lumière. 1977, and Les heures, 1987, which won the Governor General’s Award.

SPELLS OF FURY/Picas Series No. 47
Charmes de la fureur / Poems - Michel Beaulieu
Translated by Arlette Francière

Beaulieu was the most important poet of his generation, the 70s and 80s in Quebec. His verse is vitally alive, filled with reflection on anxiety, the acidity of estranged love, the gentleness of failed anticipations. The book received the Governor General’s Award.
"Sizzles off the pages. Even in translation Beaulieu’s imagery retains its anger and cutting savagery." –The Reviewing Librarian

Poetry; 6x9 A Picas Series book 85 pages: ISBN 1-55096-565-4
