About Exile Editions:

Exile Editions was founded in 1975 by one of Canada’s most recognized persons of letters, Barry Callaghan. In 2006 his son, Michael, became the publisher, and along with his wife Gabriela Campos, they oversee all corporate operations, while Barry remains as Editor-in-chief.

Exile Editions is also an independent, family-run, Canadian small press that has released close to 500 books – an impressive body of works which is the result of an editorial vision that looks to provide a vibrant and pluralistic milieu for writers, artists, and readers to partake in discovery, exchange, and expression through literary and artistic excellence.

And Exile Editions continues to evolve in its support of a vital and diverse Canadian arts ecology. Each year’s list of contemporary literary and visual arts books engages readers with important works by senior, mid-career, and emerging/new generation writers, including works by the culturally diverse, from the LGBTQIA2S+, marginalized, and Indigenous communities, by Francophones in translation, and at times from international writers.

In our pages anyone can expand their sense of self and find different ways of thinking.

Our mandate:

For close to 50 years Exile Editions has specialized in finding and developing writers of fiction, poetry, drama, and nonfiction, as well as visual artists engaged in painting, photography, illustration and other fine arts disciplines. This approach is how we:

• support and promote literary and artistic creativity by presenting writers who reflect Canada’s diverse make up.

• publish distinctive works that will contribute to the flow and exchange of ideas and cultural expression.

• engage local, regional, national, and international readers of all ages and backgrounds through the diversity of works we publish.

• maintain a priority on discovering new and emerging talent, and to offer a mentoring program that pairs established and emerging writers.

• publish Canadian authors working in other languages – and at times foreign authors – through translations most often done by Canadians.

• maintain a reprint program that keeps Canadian-authored books of cultural significance in print, and to annually increase through digitization our back list of titles.

• post original, high-quality content on our website and via social media.

• work in partnership with industry-related businesses and individuals so we develop new opportunities that foster an environment of discovery and expression.

We gratefully acknowledge:
