Midnight Stroll

$28.95

Keefer explores four physical and psychic terrains: Quebec City at the moment of the 2000 Free Trade Summit; the consumer carnival atmosphere of young Ukrainian immigrant women in contemporary Mississauga; a threatened vineyard and garden on Ontario’s Niagara escarpment; and World War II Amsterdam as seen through the eyes of Jewish writer Etty Hillesum.

The art that appears throughout the book is what inspired Keefer’s poetic engagements on our time’s political and pastoral, spiritually cramped and haunted historical “moment.”

Colour prints and a 3-page horizontal fold-out/printed both sides B&W images, plus 20 B&W photographs; by painter Natalka Husar, printer/line-drawing artist Claire Weissman Wilks, and photographer Goran Petkovski.
